    Technical Overview

    How SIP Trunking Works

A SIP trunk is a virtual phone line delivered over your internet or a dedicated data circuit. It carries as many simultaneous calls as you provision channels for — no physical lines, no line rental per number.

The trunk terminates on your IP PBX. Inbound calls to your published numbers arrive over the trunk and the PBX routes them by IVR, ring group or DID; outbound calls leave over the trunk to the carrier's network and on to any phone.

Running trunks from two carriers lets the PBX fail over automatically if one carrier or one internet link goes down, and route each call over whichever carrier is cheapest for that destination.

Existing numbers are ported to the SIP carrier so customers keep dialling the same numbers — planned around a cutover window to avoid downtime.

    Key Features

    System Capabilities

    Multi-Carrier Trunks

Safaricom, Telkom and Airtel SIP trunks provisioned and registered to your PBX, sized to your busy-hour call volume.

    Number Porting

Port existing landline and DID ranges to the SIP carrier with a managed cutover, keeping your published numbers unchanged.

    Failover Routing

Automatic reroute to a second carrier or a mobile gateway if the primary trunk or its internet link fails.

    Least-Cost Routing

Per-destination routing rules so each call takes the cheapest available carrier — on-net, off-net or international.

    Legacy Line Migration

Replace PRI/E1, analogue CO lines and old key systems with SIP, reusing handsets where an ATA or gateway allows.

    Security & QoS

IP access control lists, credential-based registration, SRTP where supported, and a network QoS check so voice quality holds up under load.

    Advantages

    Benefits of Automation

    • Line rental and per-minute costs fall — most businesses see 30–60% off their monthly bill.
    • Add or drop channels as call volume changes instead of ordering physical lines.
    • Dual-carrier failover means a single outage no longer takes the phones down.
    • Keep every published number through porting — no reprinting cards, signage or listings.
    • One trunked PBX replaces separate lines at every branch.
    • We handle the carrier paperwork, the porting timeline and the cutover.
